The main Transit model was never actually built in Germany (only the Taunus Transit was). Ford Europe was created when Ford Britain & Ford Germany merged in 1967. Although they are currently based in Germany, they have factories across Europe, and many of their older models have strong British heritage. The original Transit was developed by Ford Britain in 1965, but was later built in Belgium, The Netherlands & Turkey. The Transit was also the last Ford to be built in Britain, after production was permanently moved to Turkey in 2013. |
