Was this the 1999-2005 generation? If so, they could have just used the JDM name, MR-S.

The Toyota MR2 was renamed to MR in France because MR2 sounds a lot like "merde" which means shit. :D

Doesn't Brat also refer to a rank in military?

It means a military child. Google defention:

A military brat (colloquial or military slang) is the child of an active-duty military personnel. Military brats are associated with a unique subculture and cultural identity.

It means "Brother" in Polish and some other slavic languages. Google translator also claims that Brat refers to a badly behaving child in English. I don't know if it's true or not but the small drawing on the poster above, just after "BRAT" kinda proves that.

Also, for English speakers, the Subaru Brat

Actually, that was intentional:

Not the only case. In Spanish there is also:
The Mazda Laputa, which in spanish means "the b*%&h"
The Lancia Marica prototype (homophobic insult)
Hyundai Scoupe (escupe=he spits)
Chevrolet Nova (no va= doesn't work)
Lamborghini Reventón (even if it is named after a bull, "reventón" can also mean "tyre blowout", something you don't want to happen while going over 200mph...)

Also, for English speakers, the Subaru Brat

And Nissan Moco :)

Well...clearly these people went on to make names for GTA cars.

Montero and Shogun were alternative names for the Pajero. Polyphony still won't let you type 'Pajero' in the chats without censoring it.

Yeah, I saw those other posts you made regarding that...was Mitsubishi just playing stupid? Seriously, when a car has a name like Pajero, people are going to look up the definition...that's why every automaker should look up the name they will use on Urban Dictionary before using it...

That would make sense.

So did any actually get sold in Spain before Mitsubishi caught on?

That applies to regular Spanish as well. It was sold as a Montero here just because of that "issue"...

Is no-one seriously going to touch on the name 'Pajero'?

Latin-American Spanish for 'He who gratifies himself through auto-manipulation'.

Even Polyphony will censor you if you type 'Pajero' in the chats.
