As far as I'm aware, it's not usually the location of the original concept's design studio. The 1994 Volkswagen Concept One was designed at VW's Simi Valley design studio in California. However, the production version of the New Beetle was designed by Peter Schreyer in 1997 at VW's HQ in Wolfsburg, Germany. This is also where production started before moving to Mexico in 1999. Unlike those Brazilian and Chinese VW's, the New Beetle is not exclusive to the American market. In fact, certain key models such as the New Beetle RSi were never available in America. | |

A good example is the Mazda MX-5 Miata, which was also designed by an American studio, but they are (rightly) listed as Japanese. I know. But that's just how things are here. | |
