Actually, on the Gamecube at lease, There's a cheat code on the Enemies Vanquish mission where you can punch it in and race in the Cobra.

I have done it, but it is increasingly difficult as you don't have any weapons ;)

It is playable in the Gamecube version. It puts you against a gang bmw in a race (on same route as the mission). Kinda NFS :)

Were these sold as Shelby models only in the U.S., and still an AC elsewhere?

I've never been quite sure.

From Wikipedia:

Quote The AC Cobra, sold as the Ford/Shelby AC Cobra in the USA and often known colloquially as the Shelby Cobra in that country, is an American-engined British sports car produced intermittently since 1962.

Technically, every Cobra should be British, but Shelby versions should be made for USA.

The cars were built in Surrey, England, but had US-built Ford engines, which distinguish the Cobra from the otherwise identical AC Ace.
