The Chinese bought the marque back when MG Rover collapsed in 2005. For a few years, they built most of the car in China then did the final assembly in the old Mini factory in Birmingham, but since 2016 the manufacturing is now entirely done in Asia and only "research and development" is done in the UK.

Not in the slightest. The Chinese company basically co-opted MG's legacy and try to pretend it's the same old British brand.

It would be like calling a Dodge Stealth an American car.
