First facepalm of 2020. The first Yugo i've seen within CIS region, i've seen in 2003, and it had Macedonian license plates. USSR did not import foreign passenger cars, even from the Eastern Bloc countries. Only special vehicles, like trucks and busses. So those small passenger cars are much more familiar to Europeans than to Russians. Only Zastava i've seen in Ukraine was Zastava Florida ) | |
| The only cars I knew actually imported of this kind were the Tatra, luxury executive sedans used by the government and the police. Everything else was purely of Western origin. Not that some trabants or wartburgs would not have been imported at all, but there were very few of them, let’s say. Yugo is generally exotic, I think there are a few of them all over the country. If this is happening in Siberia, and they needed some kind of old abandoned car by all means of non-Soviet origin, then a Datsun or Toyota would have more meaning. | |
