According to IMCDB, US-spec models are just called VW Cabrio and the model year is at least 1999. Also, technically it's a facelifted Mk3 Golf, so the chassis code is [Typ 1H].

No. This is a Volkswagen. The headlights are shared with the Golf/Rabbit Cabrio, because they used one as a reference vehicle.




And that's also why the hardtop is such an odd shape- It's clearly trying to have a cabrio roof, with the asthetics of a hardtop.
