Driver: Parallel Lines, Action, 2006
Introduction

Star Wars Fanatic 2006-09-21 16:45 | A step up from Driv3r in some ways and a downgrade in others. They abandoned the usual Driver format in favour for more of a GTA ripoff, got rid of Tanner to replace him with some 70s hippy called TK and got rid of the film director completely Note that there are two significantly different eras for this game. It begins in 1978 but halfway through the game, there is a colossal time shift, as it moves on to 2006. All of the vehicles are obviously different in these 2 eras, and the colour palette in general also differs. -- Last edit: 2006-10-25 13:39:13 |
carchasesfanatic 2006-09-21 17:14 | Driver series is my favorite driving games of play station, but as SWF has mentioned before its very boring not having a Director mode, even more when you love filming and doing chases like me... |
Explorer4x4 2006-09-21 20:44 | Graphics seem good, and the shots are excellent. |
Explorer4x4 2006-10-07 08:45 | Okay, I am hooked on Driver....And, I am ordering Parallel Lines and Driver 2. Is it still an enjoyable game? From the shots, it looks good, and the cars seem better. -- Last edit: 2006-10-07 08:52:20 |
Star Wars Fanatic 2006-10-07 11:07 | Yes it is enjoyable and the onfoot is slightly better, and the story is a bit more interesting as there is a good twist halfway involving a time shift. However, the handling feels a little different to me than driv3r but still good, but the film director is really missed. I also don't like the way they tried to copy GTA in this one as it is completely free roaming in that you find the missions yourself - there's no options to just go straight into a chase, take a ride, missions etc. Also I would'nt recommend you really get Driver 2 - the very first Driver was miles better. |
Donington 2006-10-07 15:49 | Driver 2 is brilliant imho, but you can only use onfoot for changing cars. |
CrazyCars 2007-11-10 11:04 | Yes, the original was the best, if only all of the cars had been on take a ride |
carchasesfanatic 2007-11-10 13:56 | The original was the best one, i agree, i was astounded when i first played it for every detail it had, i enjoyed the second on a lot too i cant deny it, i loved it and played a lot as well, and the third one even more although it missed a lot of details, the fourth was excellent too, the graphics had a nice imporvemnt and it all was perfectly done, the representation of the citiy of New Yor City was excellent as well as the brdiges freeways etc, the traffic is so dense that you do feel ou are in a bsy city, i love, it, but something really hurted me ( ) the DIRECTOR, my so BELOVED DIRECTOR was missing ive used it so many times since i discovered it that i cant "comprenhend" a driver game without one that was such a shame and thast why i have played Parallel Lines a lot less than the previous ones, as SWF states i dont like how it copied GTA at some points such as the missions thing and the time, you cannot select the weather, which was sad too, i liked selecting when to play raining or sunny, the same for the day and night, it now runs as in GTA, you no longer can select wether you can pay at night time or at day. |
Star Wars Fanatic 2007-11-10 14:14 | The director was removed so as to benefit the overall performance of the game, which resulted in a far less glitch free and smoother game. Despite this it was still a crime to remove one of Driver's defined features, but I suspect it will be reimplemented for Driver 5. |
carchasesfanatic 2007-11-10 14:20 | I wish |
austinallegro 2007-11-23 16:58 | What I lked in this game was the ability to customise your vehicles (to a degree) like Saints Row and G.T.A. |
CrazyCars 2007-11-28 18:54 | I bought this game brand new today for £6! First impressions, great! |
CrazyCars 2007-12-04 20:57 | Finished the game, now going sightseeing! : I have seen: Central park Empire State Building World Trade Center (Twin Towers) Times Square pics.krawall.de/8/krawallbrand_Driver_PL_Screenshot_02_Xbox.jpg All the bridges Statue Of Liberty That strange tall narrow building that looks like an iron |
CrazyCars 2007-12-05 16:32 | I agree, i think it captures New York in a great way |
austinallegro 2007-12-05 17:07 | pics.krawall.de/8/krawallbrand_Driver_PL_Screenshot_02_Xbox.jpg I notice there's a Stuntman sign on this one -- Last edit: 2007-12-05 17:08:49 |
CrazyCars 2007-12-05 17:10 | Yes, but not on the released version. Did anyone else notice the picture from driver 2 in T.Ks appartment? |
CrazyCars 2007-12-12 17:55 | My favourite cars: Commercial: Courier Utility: Wrecker Muscle: Brooklyn 4 Door: Regina/Chauffer 2 Door: Rhapsody Race: Brooklyn Racer |
Kenster102.5 2007-12-15 23:36 | The Fuller Building, better known as the Flatiron Building |
BeanBandit 2008-05-31 12:33 | In 1978 there's Twin Towers, in 2006 there's Ground Zero on the same place... |
subzero 2008-08-28 13:50 | I dont really like the mission mode, I prefer to free-roam in this game. |
subzero 2008-08-29 12:09 | Weird! when I play this game, those car looks narower than it should be. |
subzero 2008-09-02 16:42 | My mistake, I did not change my TV display system to 4:3 mode. ![]() |
subzero 2008-09-02 16:42 | I prefer the 2006 era more than the 1978 era. |
Virtua Stig 2008-12-18 10:34 | Okay. I'm buying a new game and I' trying to decide between Parallel lines and GTA:San Andreas. Which is better value for money and what are the good and bad points of each one? |
subzero 2008-12-22 11:41 | The upcoming Driver will be release in 2010 for the PS3 and X-Box 360. |
Black Bart 2009-01-21 21:30 | Best Driver game out of the whole series. |
dodge1970 2009-02-22 00:36 | Oh ya its definately the best man!!! |
Black Bart 2009-02-25 02:12 | Glad you like it, too! |
Star Wars Fanatic 2009-02-25 22:08 | The original will always be Reflection's greatest work in my opinion |
Black Bart 2009-02-25 23:25 | True, I like the original, too. |
dodge1970 2009-03-18 03:47 | Well I ment its the best of the generation, you know compared to Driv3r(terrible name that Driv3r was) its better but if it had Director mode it would be 2nd best in the series, or is it now the 2nd best? Opinions on second best inserted after this post... |
General Peng 2009-04-23 13:35 | I think a very intersting this is Game! So,I like Driver Parallele Lines! -- Last edit: 2009-04-23 13:54:07 |
2009-07-04 18:47 | The driver I have not played. sure I could get it cheap now ![]() |
subzero 2009-07-07 07:58 | The upcoming driver series will be titled "Driver: The Recruit" But no screenshots yet. It will be ported for ps3, x-box360 and pc. -- Last edit: 2009-07-07 08:00:48 |
Black Bart 2009-08-16 02:05 | They got to make a Driver game setting in the 80s and 90s. They might have, but if they do again. They would have to show how that era really was, just like in this game. For example, the clothes, the cars, the music, and the scenery. Again, I really, really hope they make another Driver game that takes place in the 1980s and the 1990s, or at least either. -- Last edit: 2009-08-19 18:18:13 |
londongamer 99 2009-10-29 16:49 | This isn't really a driver game anymore as the trademark director thing is gone. -- Last edit: 2009-10-29 16:50:21 |
felneymike 2009-12-05 00:37 | Wish list for the new Driver: -The 70's -Multiple cities, played like "levels".-Film director!! -No on-foot sections, cars only -No shooting -Get missions in a "menu" which is your house Sooo bascically the original again XD. Is it me or is the 70's "orange" and modern times "blue"? The TV show Life On Mars felt the same way in the first episode. |
Black Bart 2009-12-05 17:15 | So you're saying you want a remake of the original? ![]() |
felneymike 2009-12-12 21:37 | Not nessescarily a re-make, it could have new characters/storyline/cities/cars etc. BUT i think it should be a lot closer to the original in gameplay and stop trying to be a GTA copy. The first GTA and first Driver came out at around the same time but couldn't have been more different. |
vwvanman 2009-12-27 13:27 | why cant they have tanner back? ![]() |
subzero 2010-02-11 14:14 | The next driver will be released on March 2011 |
Star Wars Fanatic 2010-02-11 14:59 | Source? That's still too long to wait, Gran Turismo 5 might actually be out by then. |
subzero 2010-02-11 15:23 | en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver_%28series%29#Future Sorry, it will release by March 2011 www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=231530 -- Last edit: 2010-02-11 15:27:34 |
Star Wars Fanatic 2010-02-11 15:49 | There's been so little coverage on it, surely it can't be long until something concrete is announced. |
takumi 2010-02-11 18:56 | I don't like if the new driver is made by Ubisoft... |
tanavin 2010-03-26 02:41 | Maybe Ubisoft will make it more like the original? Or maybe they'll atleast focus it more on Driving than the last two. |
gtavctommy1986 2010-04-11 14:59 | You mean the Flatiron Building on "That strange tall narrow buildig that looks like an iron" |
Pablo1989 2010-04-15 22:38 | I add new cars for Race Driver Grid but no body accpets screens . |
gtavctommy1986 2010-04-16 22:12 | o.k. |
gtavctommy1986 2010-04-16 22:12 | Download please, can you? |
Star Wars Fanatic 2010-09-01 01:09 | My retrospective on Parallel Lines: gamerlimit.com/2010/08/retrospective-driver-parallel-lines-and-the-road-ahead/ |
Black Bart 2010-11-14 17:14 | It turns out that many of the images posted here are from other websites, here are a few of them: ps2.ign.com/dor/objects/748577/driver-parallel-lines/images/driver-parallel-lines-20060118104722478.html www.gamezone.com/news/item/exclusive_driver_parallel_lines_screenshots/ So if it's okay, can I replace some of these images with ones I created? Not all of them, though. |
Takumi 2010-11-14 18:22 | yes you can man |
Black Bart 2010-11-14 18:29 | Thanks |

RacingFreak 2011-12-20 11:54 | However, it still exist as Grand Valley but heavily modified ![]() |
lcpdcv 2011-12-20 14:35 | Deleted, no. Grand Valley, double no. It's the beta Namorra. Looks exactly like the Chrysler 300, even has the same wheels as the Namorra. |
RacingFreak 2011-12-20 14:52 | Makes me wonder, good logic aswell! I need to analyze the model itself someday to come up with better result. |
lcpdcv 2011-12-20 15:04 | The beta Grand Valley had a roof...it still has the roof in the DPL demo, funnily. -- Last edit: 2011-12-20 15:05:06 |
RacingFreak 2011-12-20 15:24 | Hmm that makes really to wonder if the demo doesn't have some leftover beta data, for example like The Getaway for PS2 did (seems like that the Ford Fiesta Police car was in all demos, unlike the Jaguar XJ6). I will do some research on the case these days ![]() |
LCPDCV 2011-12-20 23:00 | There is A LOT of beta stuff in the DPL demo.....cops, shaders, car handling, peds, guns....I could go on. |
ominusdude 2011-12-28 19:44 | what is the wayfarer turbo? |
UltraRazza 2012-05-12 00:31 | Much like the Torrex Turbo, it's the sportier version of the era's Taxi. In my opinion, the original is 1st and San Francisco is 2nd but this is a close 3rd. |
Wolfie pie 2012-07-06 04:14 | i did. |
lcpdcv 2012-07-06 04:44 | Do you know how OLD that comment is? ![]() |
lcpdcv 2012-07-15 02:31 | Sorry to burst your bubble, but we don't care about your Christian fundamentalist parents who think M rated games "ARE DA SIN HURRRRR". -- Last edit: 2012-07-15 02:31:21 |
SizSkiizd 2012-10-14 16:11 | I can replace these pictures with larger ones of better quality, if you're interested. |
RacingFreak 2012-10-14 18:29 | Can't you get larger resolution? 720x540 is max size on IGCD. If you don't mind I already had some snaps done. |
SizSkiizd 2012-10-14 18:35 | They're as wide as the site allows them to be. Originally they were 1024px wide. I could make them taller, but then I will have to do this all over again -.- main point is, they're better than the previous ones, no matter what. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear that you'd already made some snaps. That's happened to me before and used to be subject of pissing me off, but I've learnt to cope with it over time. -- Last edit: 2012-10-14 18:39:35 |
RacingFreak 2012-10-14 19:19 | No problem, I will try to replace them all (as this process takes a lot of time doing it manually). I just wanted to know if you keep the bigger pics for more quality. |
SizSkiizd 2012-10-14 19:30 | Okay, cool. Appreciate the help ![]() |
k9underdogg 2012-10-14 20:31 | Pardon my n00bishness. I know there's no Film Director mode but does the game have a replay mode? Otherwise, how did you guys get those screenshots? (can you maybe pause the game and move the camera around or something if there's no replay?) |
lcpdcv 2012-10-14 20:44 | Thrill cam. |

SizSkiizd 2012-10-20 22:00 | Sorry. Added it now. |
Andra125 2012-11-11 12:11 | Is this game worth it? I'm thinking about trying it out... |
Tycek 2012-11-11 12:26 | You should definitely try. It's quite pleasent (maybe except the bike physics), got fantastic story, well made NYC in two timezones, nice soundtrack, vehicle modding and few other features that were quite unique (double heat meter - one for car, other for driver for example). I've completed it around three and four times and I would definitely play it once more. Maybe I will do it one day. |
lcpdcv 2012-12-10 00:33 | Added prop Regina and CGI cutscene civilian Torrex. -- Last edit: 2012-12-10 00:37:20 |

Andra125 2013-06-09 10:40 | I recently started playing this game and all i have to say is: God damn it, i can't refuse speeding trough the town when Blondie's on the radio -- Last edit: 2013-06-09 10:45:36 |
civic_eg6_94 2013-06-10 02:18 | I DO love that Blondie's song! Too bad it's ruined now by that boy band covering the song (which is ruin every essence of the song). Anyway, I prefer blasting in the 2006 era songs since it's much better than the real life radio playlists by that time. |
victorvance 2013-06-10 10:49 | A funny fact. The Blondie album on which the song was originally released was also called "Parallel Lines". |
Andra125 2013-06-10 15:38 | I guess that's where Reflections got the name for the game. -- Last edit: 2013-06-10 15:42:52 |
civic_eg6_94 2013-06-10 16:53 | I think that's possible. It might be the same case with Burnout Paradise, which the name might inspired from the song Paradise City by Guns N' Roses, which become the game's theme song. |
victorvance 2013-06-11 10:38 | That is what I am thinking too. |
