Yes, despite its delirious announcer, Ridge Racer is still hailed as one of the first truly 3d racing games and became a fast selling hit on release. Originally released as an arcade game, Ridge Racer found itself as Sony's mascot game in 1994 for its then new Playstation console, and has gone on to spawn many sequels, which have led to further mascot titles for Sony's subsequent PS2, PSP and PS3. Whilst its bizarre on rails handling doesn't quite appeal to me, it is nonetheless a classic series, and this is the one that started it all.
