They said it would be as good graphically as GTA IV...but in a trailer it looked a bit cartoonish, i hope they manage to get it right, and also, not lose all the features and fun from the previous titles. Also, the psysics needs to be also better, they were rubbish on both Saints Row 1 and 2.

Indeed. It was easy to take advantage of those flaws with the cheat codes, though. If you combined the car mass cheat with low gravity, it made smashing cars off the road as easy, or even easier than Burnout Revenge!

Well, the game will have a new game engine (CTG), which I hope will combane the best of SR2's engine and RFG's engine (of which an upgraded version will be in Red Faction Armageddon), combined with an enhanced Havok physics engine.

All in all, this might be to the Saint's Row series as GTA IV was to the GTA series (in a sense).

Thanks to the SR Wiki, there's some new images with some vehicles returning from SR2:

Taxi (same body as the first two games, but with a new trunk and rear bumper (the license plate was on the trunk in the first two games, but is now on the bumper)):

Bear APC:

I didn't post these images as new vehicles because of the added names that I'm sure weren't in the video's they came from (when I posted the Scrubber, the name in the top left corner was part of the video). If anyone else thinks that these SHOULD be posted, let me know, and I shall do it.

Just checked the SR Wikia again, and found 2 more new cars:

Emu - small car based off of the Smart ForTwo:

Hammer - Long, American styled wagon, like a Dodge Magnum, could possibly be a long-awaited successor to the SR1 Ricochet?

And, I also found a quality image that I will post for the Mulsanne.

Rapide (not sure if this will be the real name, but...) - Aston Martin Rapide-like sedan.

Flatbed - flatbed, flat nosed truck (possibly Euro-styled). (Poor image quality ahead, but it's visible, along with the name)

The Kaneda is back...

...along with the Keystone!

Finally, take a look at this picture of the Manapult.

If you look closely, you can see the Vortex, a Widowmaker, an unknown sedan, and 2 unknown SUVs that look like a Ford Escape or a 2011 Edge.

The Estrada is back, but it might not be a police bike anymore (we might have to wait for the game to be released to find out for sure).

Edit: Here's the front, and it seems it IS no longer a police bike.

Also, the Raycaster is back, and it appears it hasn't changed a bit.

One of my favorites from SR2 is back, the Wakazashi.

And, finally (for this post), two new pictures of the Flatbed.

Got this for xmas. All I do is get money and then tune my cars. I don't know why they removed some cars from SR2, there are barely any. SR2 had 107 cars and this has 71. SR1 had 81. I think they should have spent more time on normal things instead of making it over the top. Making it over the top dosn't add much to the game. 30 more cars does.

It's better than SR2 in that respect though. Sadly, overall I think it's poorer than that game though I cannot explain exactly why I've come to that conclusion. Two things I'd definitely point to is fewer cars and losing some of the better activities such as Toxic Avenger. Also, at the point I've got to I've found the story mode to be a bit non-linear (and not in the good way).

This game gets my vote as the "most disappointing game of 2011". To the give them credit, the developers/marketing team knew exactly what they were doing; hype up the game as much as possible so people pre-order it, then deliver a lame excuse for an SR game that barely acknowledges the previous two games at all, but hey, they've got their money (this is the best-selling SR game they've made). They seem to think that making a game "over the top" equates to making the game as stupid as possible. What happened to protecting celebrities from crazed fans by throwing said fans off buildings, into the back of a garbage truck, or into a jet engine (and more)? What happened to causing property damage by spraying sewage everywhere? What happened to taking part in a cop show and and using excessive methods to take out criminals or petty law breakers? What happened to taking drugs and drinking alcohol? Wasn't that kind of over the top? No? Instead we're driving a tiger around grid-iron town, using a tank to fight other tanks thousands of feet in the sky (then surviving the landing), fighting a bunch of masked wresters and mutants that would be more at home in Pacific City (Crackdown) and making choices that have no real consequences, except the one made at the very end of the game. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it there. I guess I'll finish by saying it's a lot like TDU2; they had a great formula and just chose to completely ruin it - even GTA IV was much less of a let down than this. Redeeming qualities to SR:TT? You can literally crush cars, you can add underglow to cars, Deckers.Die was a good mission... that's about it. SR2 (and SR1, in my opinion) is far superior, it has online multiplayer, less restrictive customisation and a better storyline/missions.

On the plus side, I only rented this for 7 nights for £7. I feel sorry for people who payed £40-£50, it really isn't worth it.

carcrasher88 US (20)

2012-01-08 03:21

I'd have to severely disagree. I'd say this is one of the best games of 2011. It's fun, over the top, and is essentially GTA's clinically insane cousin. The first two games were slightly over the top (the second more than the first), and were very enjoyable.

That over the top style can be mostly seen in the Tank Mayhem activity, a number of missions, and of course, the ever famous Professor Genki activity (which was one of my favorite parts of the game). Although the game did have a smaller number of vehicles in it, the game offered a much more diverse selection than any GTA or Saints Row game before it (I mean, where else are you gonna be able to drive a street sweeper that you can modify with razor blades and metal spikes?).

The missions are very diverse, and take bits from many different types of games (wrestling, MMORPG, Left 4 Dead/Deadrising, etc.), and do it very well. Oh, and that one with the tiger in the car? It's a 'Talladega Nights' reference.

For what it's worth, there were a few sore spots in the game. Vehicle deformation (except for when flattened by a tank) being the biggest downside to me.

Then again, like I said, it's like GTA's insane cousin. It's SUPPOSED to be wacky...something that Volition did a great job doing.

You've got your opinion, I've got mine. I guess that the only conclusion's just not your kind of game. Does that make it a bad game? No. If the game sells, and gets good reviews, mission accomplished.

That's just my 2 cents, of course.

stryder237 EN (3)

2012-01-13 21:10

I love over top games and lots of silly fun. But the problem is they removed good things from SR2 and did not replace them with anything. What happened to having layers of clothing, and socks? Where did 30 (good, unique) cars go? What about the crazy, fun activities? What about the diverse, intresting city go?
I liked the over-the-top personna, but not sacrificing other things that also make a game like this. The OTT story was over soon, but other things that never go, like cars, where not there.
I am not saying this game is bad. They had some good ideas, like roadworks that appear randomly and go, instead of endless roadworks. But features like this are over used so you always see roadworks so the feture is undermined. They could have spent more time on it and made this game better.
I know this is not the ultra-perfect GTA but the problem is it was worse than SR2, it should be better. Thats my problem.

Luckily I only paid £20 when it was half price in gamestation. I'll use the money saved to get a copy of SR2.

In my opinion, the only missing element in this game is the vehicles variety. You get less cars than in Saints Row 2, the classics like Compton, Stiletto, Hollywood, Betsy, and other classics, also the good Japanese cars like Voxel, Mockingbird, Eiswolf, and Varsity. Instead, they add the crappy Cosmos rather than those cars. I do also miss cars like Capshaw and Voyage. Those cars are good eventhough it's a regular car.

i know man its bs like they can't make a truly amazing game anymore, Saintsrow 3 introduced some great things to the game, such as tanks and the STAG VTOL and awesome weapons designs, but it lost so many cars, vehicles, and customization options, that if it wasn't for the improved physics, SR2 would beat it out plain and simple.

This game was great, but still a little bit dissapointing. And it gets old after a while. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

For anybody wondering why it was "a little bit dissapointing":

-Lots of cars were cut from the game
-Lots of fun features were cut from the game
-The story seems soul-less
-The environment seems so color-less. I mean, it's so grey and depressing...
-The interiors of the safehouses seem all the same.

Oh well, back in november 2011 when i got windows 7 installed in my computer, i thought i'd play GTA IV on it. And if it won't work, then i'll get SR3.

1: For the remowed cars, i compared this page to the SR2 page.

What's with these questions. Everybody knows that SRTT was poor part with a lot of features cut out.

Check it out, everyone. They're back!

Saints Row IV hits stores this August on 'current-gen consoles' and PC.

The link includes the teaser trailer, which includes a 30's hot hod, a monster truck version of this (, and apparently a new police car, along with returning cars, and maybe a couple other new ones I didn't catch.

Someone should make a page for this ASAP!

Wait, wait, wait... Are they serious? The game's even more over-hyped this time... I guess it's fun for somebody who doesn't want so much realism, but for somebody like me, it's just... No comment. *sigh* I guess i'll get the good old SR2 instead of this one...

Wow, this game is getting more freaky and unrealistic. Maybe they want to combine sandbox violent games like GTA and adding many unrealistic elements like aliens, super-powers, even the review sy that one mission involve to rescue your friends from a simulation world.

Saints Row has 80 vehicles.
Saints Row 2 has 125 vehicles.
Saints Row: The Third has 85 vehicles.

I still like Saints Row 2 for more. because It has a lot of fun.

Anyone else noticed that on the computers in the bank robbery mission at the beginning have the gangster chief of police segment of the intro to saints row 2?

How is the handling in the game? Is it something like GTA V/Just Cause 2 styled (arcade with a bit of realism) or like SR2/Total Overdose/Driver Parallel lines (cheap, underwhelming and all around odd arcade driving)?

The game had some potential (it has even licensed Lexani and Asanti rims) but every Saints Row game had a very bad physics engine.
I bought this when it was on sale but I was very disappointed by the vehicles handling.

My direct review of Saints Row: The Third after playing countless hours of the game on both PS3 and 360:

I used to love the Saints Row series when I got the hands on Saints Row 2. I admit it was all fun and gawk-worthy, but it had some serious tone to set the mood of Stilwater. Whenever I got a chance to do, I'd partake on activities, drive around cars like a madman, and lots of hilariousness in between. I had high hopes that Volition and THQ would go even bigger on Saints Row: The Third and even have some bigger plots to fill in the expansion of the Saints, and even go as far as becoming celebrities and a expansion of moving to a different city. Again, when SR:TT was announced in early 2011, SR fans, including me, were instantly hyped on what it would offer, alongside some meaningful content that could last for a few years. Fast forward to November 2011, and we got uber-bedlam stuff, but it sacrificed so much in terms of content. I did find some enjoyment but it's been rather disappointing to me.

And how much content did it get sacrificed? Let me explain.

What it Got Wrong:

-Overall Loss of Many Decent Vehicles
The obvious elephant of the room and what kinda turned me off is the overall lack of variety of vehicles compared to SR/SR2. What happened to you, Volition? Why did you cut all the good ones? Venom Classic, Danville, Destiny, Komodo, Mag, Socialite, etc. I'd rather drive the Mag around Steelport rather than the crappily watered down Criminal it replaced. I wish open world games would at least take the appreciation of the word variety. Just because you got badass vehicles and VTOLs and all of that does not mean you get to purge away all the meaningless vehicles we like to drive. That's sad, and I'm never seen Volition and THQ gut away cars this drastic. Also, it feels like I've seen the same vehicles hundreds of times. Disappointing.

-Lack of Entertaining Activities
Yeah, I'm so interested to participate in Genki's SERC.... NO. What's the story about this replacing Fight Club and interesting ones like Septic Avenger? Were they not popular? Whatever the case may be, the activities list is shorter than SR2's list. Sure, Tiger Escort is fun but it gets boring. And what happened to the diversions? They're not there anymore. No Taxi Driver. No FUZZ. No Paramedic missions. And I would have more fun and suited nicely in SR:TT was to attack an armored truck and steal its money. The existing activities are severely dumbed down, as they're no longer level-gated unlike the previous two.

-Mission Count is Short, Plus the Choice Mechanic is Tacked On
Saints Row: The Third is much shorter than the first two Saints Rows. Aside from Strongholds and other padding, there are just 25 real missions in SR:TT, compared to 36 in SR and 56 in SR2. I feel like this is rather short to me and it's a shame because it takes long to get that far, in my opinion. I don't need activities just to progress through it. Additionally, the choice mechanic, while it's alright, feels tacked on as there's always consequences for the actions required.

-The Overall City of Steelport Is Bland
Stilwater was sprawling with all walks of life in both SR and SR2, with a wide variety of people and lots of things to do. But with SR:TT's Steelport, it's really bland. It looks far too similar to New York and its boroughs rather than a unique utopia. Also, parts of Chicago, like the vandalized EL train system, are there. Too much of the work went into the Downtown District and nothing else. It's also noticeably smaller than Saints Row's Stilwater. Downtown District is pretty much your generic downtown district that looks like Manhattan, but squashed. It has a park with literally only two roads, one overpassing the park and another one, a one-way road that looks like a Paris cobblestone road by comparison, as well as some industrial districts. Stanfield is badly designed with a supposedly residential area. An abandoned power plant dominates the area, with many low-quality hotels and rundown buildings. New Colvin is alright, but feels tacked on with a BDSM club and a airport. Carver Island is basically a low-budget Las Vegas, with Three Count Casino overlooking that island.

Also, I feel like the alterations done to the city were extremely ridiculous. Why, on earth, would you destroy the Syndicate Tower (a gigantic monolith dominating Steelport's skyline) out of anger when you could have saved it?! Or why did the Saints get blamed by the Luchadores when the bridge the they were on were attacked, causing the bridge's destruction? Or when STAG decided to set up shop in Steelport? And having ZOMBIES?! And then a full blown citywide warfare (more on that later)??? Also, the time-of-day does not change. Instead, you're stuck with four preset times of day (morning, noon, evening and night).

-The Story Is Ludicrous (But Fun, Too!)
The story is far too insane to describe, but it's fun to begin with. After the Saints become celebrities, they think it was a good idea to rob a bank owned by the Syndicate. But they get in hot water after Josh Birk made a stupid move of attracting the cops. They were promptly arrested and sent to Steelport, but the Saints lose Johnny Gat in the process as they jump out of the cargo plane. After a few tasks/activities hammering Loren's Syndicate goons, the Saints agree to go after Loren. After either saving/destroying the tower, they go to Stilwater to mourn the loss of Gat. But while they were on the bridge, they were ambushed by the Luchadores. From there, they were angered that The Syndicate attacked the Saints again and go to war with them. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse as the STAG Initiative (a private anti-gang army), end up attacking the Saints. With the extensive destruction of their properties, and even the Thermopylae, STAG declared martial law on Steelport. This led to a city-wide warfare reminiscent of a low-budget Modern Warfare. Whatever happens there results in either the Magarac Island blowing up or having Killbane escape.

What it Got Right:
-Gunplay is Better
And it's fun on either end. Guns can be upgraded to your heart's content. And the combat is a little bland but good overall.

-The Music is Awesome As Usual
Especially on The Mix 107.77. You got tracks from Tone Loc to Motley Crue and the other stations are fair but okay. But it's more fun to listen on your own mixtape while you drive.

-Upgrades to Your Character Are Crazy
Unlike previous SR games, Respect is now used to make use of upgrades to almost anything from taking less damage to having bottomless ammo. Once you're at max 50 and have all of the upgrades, you're pretty much impossible to kill than even the next over-armored soldier in combat. You will feel like you have nothing to lose.

-It's Pure Fun When You're Just Messing Around in Steelport
While not great it's still all fun if you like to do anything you want. It's basically a cartooned GTA but it at least has some hilarity here and there. But it's not as good as SR/SR2 and it kinda took a drastic turn.

6/10. Had they made the story sensible and not too high-octane, and had more variety to their cars, made Steelport bigger, I would give it 7.75/10.
