That's right, it was officially announced yesterday that this year's Need for Speed will be called Most Wanted and it will be not a sequel of the 2005 title, aswell as it is set in Fairhaven City (which name seems to be inspired by Paradise City).

Yeah 2005 Most Wanted had a sequel: NFS Carbon but 2012 Most Wanted is a reboot.

Its Criterion and hot pursuit was good, so this might be... The thing about a NFS every year is silly. Criterion could be making another burnout, but no, EA are being greedy idiots. Again.

Honestly, I think Criterion may be taking a decent path with this. Hot Pursuit in 2010, Burnout Crash in 2011 (not a 100% true Burnout game, but it's Crash mode, so it still counts), Most Wanted in 2012.

This could only mean that we might see another new Burnout next year, and Criterion isn't developing 2 games at the same time, for quality's sake. Sort of how Rockstar refuses to make GTA an annual thing, also for the sake of game quality.

Kinda makes sense, doesn't it?

If they don't include a quick race mode in this game, they are complete jerks. You know why The Run and Hot Pursuit 2010 didn't have a quick race mode and only had a career mode?? They wanted to make the games shorter so you finish them in a few weeks and don't have anything to do with them afterwards (except beating some silly time in autolog) and that way you will want to buy the next NFS as soon as possible.
If you've played the older NFS games, you know what I mean. That's why those were timeless classics: loads of replayability.

I could highly doubt quick race and such whatnots will exists anyway. There's hardly any racing game with such feature nowadays, remembering almost every developer have shifted their focus towards multiplayer-oriented modes instead.

Especially in this case, expect something like Speedlog/whatever it named.

Then again Criterion did release the Diablo SV as DLC on NFS HP so there is a chance they could release the original E46 BMW M3 GTR as DLC

It then finished first in the GT2 class for the 2004 Spa 24 hours, which was 6th overall. It finished 2nd in the 2004 Masters of Formula 3 Zandvoort, the same race where numerous F1 cars were on the field. It won in it's category at the 2010 12 Hours of Spa, and again at the 2010 25 Hours of Spa. So if that ain't legendary, I don't know what is.

I know, the game isn't released yet, but I think this game will be one of the worst Need for Speed games, because:

1. No original cars ('2003 BMW M3 GTR [E46], '2004 Mazda RX-8 [FE3S], '2005 Ford Mustang GT, '1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS, etc).
2. No original and creative ideas: old title and free-roam version of Hot Pursuit 2010 with Burnout Paradise elements.
3. Perhaps, there is no tuning like in original Most Wanted. Tuning wasn't shown in trailer, and if tuning will take place in the game, I guess it will be stock paintjob and performance settings only. Most Wanted without great tuning isn't Most Wanted.
4. DLC and pre-orders are signs for greedy manufacturer and low-quality product. Can you imagine a 35 piece puzzle, but with 34 pieces only and the last one is only for extra money?
5. No Johanna "Josie" Maran, she is lovely .
6. Battlefield 3-like HUD is awful.
7. No ability to use doughnuts, gas stations and huge billboards against cops.
8. No concrete and clear plot. What we need to do this time?
9. More catch-up and less gorgeous catchy soundtrack again?
10. Why the same old title again? Poor fantasy? Writer's block? Original Most Wanted's popularity?

P.S.: This is my own opinion and expectations, and I know, the game isn't released yet, so no hating :)

@Sonic ZR1: I DID mean "decent". I think Need for Speeds before Underground were "excellent".
@Maltravers: I couldn't agree more.
I know I'm gonna sound like a jerk but I'm really hoping for critics to destroy this game, and for EA and Criterion to go bankrupt. They are making a multiplayer oriented game simply because it's easier (less coding, AI doesn't need to be great in a multiplayer game), it's aimed at braindead kids that only care about graphics, and it has less replay value, so like I said, that way they can make a "new" NFS every year and make sure it sells. Because you know, it says "Need for Speed" on the title. They have established the series, now they just cash in on the name.

But all this is really scaring me, I think this is just the direction videogames are heading now, I'm gonna have to deal with it (and lock myself up playing old games).
Sorry for the long post :P I'm outta here

Underground was EA taking a break from the exotic cars and lanscapes. And they were great games, maybe "not good need for speeds", if you think they had nothing to do with "Need for Speed" just look at the box art of the games: "need for speed" in small letters and "UNDERGROUND" in big letters. But anyway I hope they don't make an Underground 3 because they are going to make it suck.
The only way they can make good games is if they take more than only one year to make them and include as many features as they can (cockpit view, replays, quick race, etc.), instead of making short games with just some shitty campaign, multiplayer and autolog. They only care about making money now.

Because ricer means if you get bodykits to tough the ground or lower your car that much.
A massive Chamber over 5 degrees... And chrome rims..... That's what a ricer is... Having a cool tuned car with a neon and Vinyl doesn't mean you're a ricer.
And tuning cars is jun in NFS titles and since Undercover they fucked up the tuning so fuck that's why nobody buys their games they download them....
And its more fun to drive a tuned car because there is no chance that somebody has the same car as you and you can say "Hey my car looks more B@d@ss than yours"
And I don't know what the fuck is your problem then guys? Even Gran Turismo and Forza has body tuning so WTF? NFS has gotten really famous because of the Tuning they included and that's why all their games until 2008 were selling really good until they brought some bullshit stock car racing to NFS.....

They should make a tool to create your own vinyls for the game. And maybe let us share them in the official site, with other players. But why would they...
I mean it would be cool, players could have gangs with exclusive vinyls (like in Carbon) since it's a multiplayer oriented game.

^So basically like Forza Motorsport, right? Definitely agree. In fact, I think Forza is the only series of console games (outside of NASCAR games, I believe) that's done that.

TDU2 and the (NFS) Shift games (and maybe some others) have allowed us to create our own paint schemes, but we were never allowed to share them. If they did that with this game, it would be great.

oh I haven't played Forza or TDU2 or NFS Shift :P I didn't know those games had that feature, it's really cool that the developers make tools to create stuff and add it to the game, like paintjobs for the cars (instead of just being the players the ones who have to crack the game's files and make tools to modify them). It extends the replay value greatly.
If EA has checked out pages like nfscars.net, where people post a lot of fan made vinyls for Underground 2 for example, they should probably be considering something like this :P

If that is the case, you'll be able to wash them off by driving through the 9000 water puddles on the streets, or driving through a repair shop/paint shop ala BP.

what do you meen? To me the game had excellent graphics but very little realism and damage effects seemed a bit downgraded from MC3 ( the cars could be slightly deformed in mc3 instead of just loosing the bumpers and getting scratched paint,Customization declined a little from MC3,(Mc3 had atleast six+ bumper options for most cars, MCLA usually just had 4,(although it could possibly be counterbalance with the player being able to modify exotics, (Present in NFS since the original Most Wanted I believe), and motorcycles in mcla. I think if they used the same the same vehicle selection from MC3 + the additional licenced vehicles in LA (Ford, shelby, aston martin,Mazda,Buick)combined with the awesome vinyl editor from MCLA, (One of the best i've seen in a game, Mostly cuz it gives cordinates allowing vinyl alignment to be nearly perfect, something every NFS game so far has lacked), they could of made a much better game. I don't think i've yet seen a racing game with a thorough car list, it always lacks something.

Ya i know, the cellphone thing was a pain in the &*^ , and soundtrack was too modern, i meen cmon, you don't have to only use songs written within 3 years of the games release. The handling though, is pretty much the same as the rest of the Midnight club console series since MC2, except for the special abilities added in MC3, and the new EMP ability in MCLA, however i was kind of annoyed at first since all the abilitys now require "clean driving" to charge them up, i miss the purposeful drifting in MC3 to charge up "Roar". I would not be dissapointed however, if they removed 2 Wheel Driving from the game as it has very little practical use (other then to look at the bottom of the car). I also miss the wide variety of trucks and choppers. Now limited to 2 and 0, respectfully.

Despite the annoying commentary, this vid shows alot of how the game plays. You start in fast cars and find other fast cars around the city. For each car, you complete races to unlock upgrades, and have to this for every car, so lots of content (depending on how much you can unlock and how many cars their are) The driving is very arcadey. It looks easy, but it is the start of the game. The music is very mainstream, which is good for me, but not every one will like it. The map seems small, but similar to burnout paradise, it has lots of shortcuts and off-road bits. You can change parts and cars from the easy drive menu.

It is all fast-paced and constant action, but may not to every ones tastes. Oh, the cutscenes are mental.
Watch the vid for more info, mute the commentary if you want.

Let me answer that for you.
Yes, the game has good graphics, but despite that, it's just like a licensed car copy of Burnout Paradise with cop chases. Crappy cars list, boring gameplay, lack of customization option, maps are not big enough, and the only way to get cars are finding it through the city, not buying them. If you ever played the game, there are many elements from Burnout paradise (billboards, smash gates, repair shops) are on this game. Plus, when you hit traffic cars or walls, you got the annoying "crashed" sign like Burnout, making it really annoying when you race or in pursuit.
I played this game for three weeks (until I got the Agera R), then I lost my desire and not play that game again. :|

Honestly, I think this is a great game. The map is certainly larger than Criterion's previous NFS game, Hot Pursuit.

The car selection, while small, has a good variety of vehicles.

The handling is no longer 'drift-to-turn' like HP, although it might be required going into turns at quite high speeds, depending on the vehicle. Still, it's more realistic (not to simulator standards, but for an arcade racer, it's pretty good).

The environment is well put together, and fun to drive around in.

Implementing various parts from Burnout Paradise seems to work decently.

Smashing security gates can result in finding ways to billboards and/or jackspots.

Billboards add a piece of replay value, with the whole idea of competing to see who can fly through the sign the furthest.

Graphics live up to typical Criterion spec, but more importantly, the gameplay is well managed, and is a lot of fun.

True, Burnout Paradise is an even better game, and this game doesn't hold a candle to the original Most Wanted. But, for a reboot of the Most Wanted IP, it's well executed, and although slightly lacking in certain aspects, as a whole game, it's pretty darn good.

My score: A Solid 8/10.

Edit: Also, I've yet to complete the game, I'm currently around half done.

I'm staggered by how low this game has been rated. It's quite sad really how people are shitting all over this game due to it's "lack of customization" and "Burnout inspired" elements.

While I can agree there could've been more customization such as a Rainbow system paint (Where you can choose any colour), and maybe even a vinyl system similar to that of Forza Motorsport's, It's honestly not a huge pain for me. Not to mention the performance upgrades that you can get, can actually do wonders to your cars, especially if you manage to unlock the Pro upgrades to those modifications.

And for Burnout inspired? The only thing I can really think of it being so is the Jumps and Billboards and Security Fences and MAYBE the drifting and crashes, but other than that, there's too many things I find that can't justify it as a worthy spiritual successor to Paradise. It contains alot of elements to me as also seen in previous Need for Speed titles.

The Online is also quite fun, being able to try to outlast and outrun everyone else and prove why you deserve to be "Most Wanted" by everyone. Disappointed though by the lack of Police cars online I will admit though.

Honestly, I think this is FAR OUT an improvement compared to The Run, but it's not perfect. However, if you forget about all of the other things that fans whine about, this game in the core, is definitely a good game as compared to last year's installment.

Oh and by the way, the first DLC pack has been announced, which will consist of 5 Hypercars to add to the list. These include:

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse
Pagani Zonda R
Hennessey Venom GT
Lamborghini Aventador J
and the McLaren F1 LM!

Very psyched for the F1 LM. :D

Overall, it's like a neutered version of the 2005 original. I can see why people would enjoy this game, but to me, it's redundant as hell.

For crying out loud can't you people move on, the old NFS MW is in the past OK, just like many other things in our life.

This one is obviously a remake. For good sake, will you just calm down and accept your defeat that this remake is bad and have many flaws than previous games?

And what evidence do you have to present that this is a remake? You said it yourself that this is more Burnout that NFS, now your saying it's a remake?
EA never said it's gonna be a remake.
What flaws? It has police chases, fast paced races, crashes/takedowns... oh wait, it doesn't have a pink neon option for the Lamborghini so everyone is gonna bash the game. WTF is wrong with you people!

I guess Civic_EG6_94 is confused too, just like me. We think the same title means remake or something, but it just a Criterion's version.
What's wrong with a pink neon for Lambo? If I want to create a Barbie Girl car for my junior sister or put a 30" rims for a '89 Geo Metro, why not? It's just a game and I'm just having fun. Don't take it serious.
Merry Christmas and best wishes!

You can make a barbie car for your sis, but you have so many other NFS games that can do that, from Underground to Undercover or Midnight Club:LA.
I just don't get why people hate the game because it doesn't have tuning options.
Anyway I've seen people make their DLC wish lists, well I would like to see some older cars in the next one, they could get the Firebird from The Run along with the Miura and Skyline Mk III.

Dude, the main reason we dislike tis game isn't because it doesn't have any tuning options (honestly, I would hate myself if I paint my Agera with pearlescent pink and have golden 30 inch rims)
We dislike it because it doesn't have the thrill and fun like the old Most Wanted or any of The Burnout series that Criterion have succeeded before this game came. I was hyped when Criterion involved in the creation of this game, but after I'm playing it, I was a bit disappointed by many things besides the lack of customization.
So don't get mad because people hate this game due to lack of customization, because not all people dislike this game because of that. There's many other factor that Criterion can improve this game and make it even as excellent as Burnout.
(P.S.: Yes, all of NFS fans would wish for older cars on the DLC wish list. I even want to see the old muscle cars that available from previous games, the AE86, the R34 Skyline, the M3 E46, and even some traffic cars that used to be playable in NFS: MW)

Yes, it should be, those 10 cars (plus the Venom GT) aren't unlockable from the start and you must beat them to unlock it.

Well anyways,i'd like to say something about the dissapointment i received when i figured out the Versa is not drivable. I know, having this one particular car does not mean the whole game will be better, i'm not saying the game sucks just because the Versa is not drivable. So, EA said that:

Quote If you get caught, you will respawn in a Nissan Versa traffic car back at the police station. You then need to get to a Jack Spot to switch cars and be able to trigger events to continue your progression.

And the reason why i got this game after all was to drive the Versa. I even crashed into a cop and then pulled over, just to be able to drive this car. But then, i found myself at a jackspot in the car that i used to trigger the pursuit in the first place. Oh well, EA not bringing the game content they promised :/

Terminal Velocity pack add's Hughes International Airport, new race modes including drift, cars including BMW 1M Coupe, Alfa Romeo Mito QV (probably), a new (?) 918 Spyder (hope it's not a stock one, 2 same cars would suck) and 2 more cars that I can't see on the cover of the pack, one look's like an Audi and the other like a Ford (?). Movie Legends add's Shelby GT500, Pontiac Firebird (Formula?), Aston DB5 and Aston DBS and Dodge Charger (RT?). NFS Heroes pack add's M3 GTR, Skyline GTR and 350Z which will be customized, and a Mazda RX7 battle machine (looks like it from the cover) and one more which I can't see. In conclusion, HELL YEAH!

On the Terminal Velocity cover, the other cars look like they might be a single player '13 Focus ST and possibly an RS3 Sportback (one can hope, right?).

This is great, 3 packs of 5 cars each, new modes, and a map expansion. Good to see that they'll be available in a bundle, which should be a little cheaper that way.

Sorry for the double post, but...

I was wrong, it's not a single player Focus ST, but the new Fiesta ST in the Terminal Velocity pack. I was right on the RS3, though. :)

Diablo SV and 911 GT2 in the Heroes pack, as well.

Also, they're not leaving PC players in the dust, all 3 packs and the bundle will be available on Origin on March 13.

EA's way to release a game that is not complete and sell the missing contents as DLC is just because they want to cover their production cost and profitability loss due to piracy. I know EA's way is wrong because it makes EA's good image drop. Still the way is worse than Forza series, becuase Turn 10 only sell additional cars, not missing content.

Welp, here goes another EA's attempt to make players pay more for the game :/

If they add good classics (like BMW M3 (E30), Datsun 240Z, Skyline (R32), and Toyota Corolla AE86 from NFS The Run), I'm sure that most player want to buy it.

You do realize that the DLC was only worked on after the game had gone gold... right? It isn't in the disc, and you have no "entitlement" to it.

Pffft, you reply to an old comment, classic.
Anyway, DLC appears not because the game had gone gold, it's more of a money making scam to make gamers pay more for something that they could add in the base game itself. Hell, I know there are exception in Forza and Gran Turismo (or any other good game), but games like NFS (especially the new Most Wanted) seems making DLC as a pieces of puzzles to complete the incomplete base game. They pretty slick enough to make players buy the DLC by releasing a game that isn't really good enough and release a so-called DLC that surely makes the game better but not really what the gamers expected.

If you don't like me responding to an age old comment, then why reply to mine?
In any case the DLC isn't in the base game, and the game is complete the way it is. They don't "make" you buy it; If you don't like it, then don't buy it. But if you think the DLC is in the base game, then prove it. Find the files in Most Wanted which code for the 1970 Charger, PROVE to me that they blocked access unless you buy the DLC, and I will believe you.
Oh, wait, you can't, because it's NOT in the base game.
